AACN Certification Study Guide Review

The Clinical Nurse Leader certification program is offered by the CNC, which is a branch of the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses. The AACN sponsored exam verifies a student understands key professional nursing standards, including ethics, biology, patient care, records and documentation, and other key elements.

A student can register for the AACN certification exam online. The AACN registered nurse exam is a web based test that is administered through the student’s Nursing school. Often, teachers will schedule the exam well in advance, and require students to pay the examination fee at the time of scheduling (or it may be included in the overall cost of the class).

Applicants can become certified under various programs including CCRN, PCCN, CMC, CSC, ACNPC, CCNS, and CNML. The requirements of each of the programs relate to years of education, years of on job experience relevant to the accreditation, and aptitude for skills related to the field. Applicants should determine the requirements for their desired program, so as not to apply for an exam they do not qualify for.

The AACN exam for certified nurse runs almost monthly in many areas throughout the US. An initial exam fee of $295 is assessed upon registration through the site. Students are allowed to go through a re-exam process if they do not pass on the first attempt. A re-examination appointment costs $235 for the entire exam, $175 for the multiple choice section, or $175 for the simulation section only.
