The Accuplacer exam is a comprehensive test given to all incoming freshmen students. Although it has been adapted by many colleges and universities in the United States the main objective of the examination continues to be to assess the academic skills of the students and determine the course best suited for them.
The Accuplacer test is an adaptive exam. This means that the question will depend on the examinee’s answers to the previous questions. This way, the right and appropriate questions based on the student’s ability are asked. It is a computer-based examination that is not timed. The examinee is given ample time to think about the answers. An answer may also be changed, provided that the next question has not been asked yet. However, leaving an item blank is not allowed.
The exam consists of the following:
* A multiple-choice test that covers Math, English, and Reading
* An essay part which is either timed or untimed
* Before taking the exam, there is an assessment of academic background, goals, and interests. These will help the counselors in determining the right college course for you.
Right after you finish the exam, the scores will be provided. There is no Pass or Fail in the examination. The scores will be based on the number of questions answered correctly, depending on the difficulty level.
However, you should try your hardest on the tests in order to get as precise a measure of your academic skills as possible.
