The American Council on Exercise (ACE) offers certification through their ACE Group Fitness Instructor Exam. The ACE Exam helps those leading group exercises in any format a way to showcase their excellence and leadership qualities.
The exam prepares teachers to lead group exercise in any of the following forms:
* Anatomy
* Kinesiology
* Exercise Physiology
* Instructional Techniques
* Class Design
* Cueing
* Injury Prevention
There are currently two requirements to be able to take the ACE Instructor Certification Exam:
* Be 18 years old.
* Have an adult CPR and AED Certificate in good standing.
The exam currently has 150 questions, with 125 of those questions counting towards the final score. The 125 questions are graded and given a value based upon pre-determined figures, amounting to 800 total points. Candidates who achieve a score of 500 points or more will receive certification.
The exam covers four key areas:
* Exercise programs and class creation
* Instructional Methods
* Leadership qualities and methods
* Professional ethics and duties
The majority of the questions fall into the first two categories, so this should be the primary focus when studying for the ACE Instructor Certification Exam.
The ACE Instructor Certification Exam costs $249 with no refund for failing. Applicants can register for the exam online or through the mail. The exam is a CBT based exam and there are roughly 400 locations worldwide where applicants can take the test.
The exam has a 3 hour time allotment to complete.
