The ACE Personal Trainer Exam is a certification exam offered by the American Council on Exercise (ACE). The exam is designed for those wanting to be certified for one-on-one personal training or small group exercise program leadership.
Those who take the exam will be expected to demonstrate an understanding of:
* Exercise science
* Nutrition
* Overall fitness
* Be screened for risk factors
* Exercise program creation
* Instructional weight-lifting safeguards, like spotting.
* Lifestyle screening and changes
* Professional ethics and code of conduct
In order to take the ACE Personal Trainer Exam, a candidate must:
* Be 18 years old.
* Have an adult CPR and AED certification at the time of the exam.
The exam covers a wide variety of exercise knowledge. On exam day, applicants will be asked to answer 150 multiple choice questions and two additional written simulation questions. The written questions relate to client to instructor scenarios. The multiple choice questions count for 75%, while the written scenario answers count for 25% of the overall grade.
Candidates can register for the exam online 15-90 days prior to taking the test. The ACE offers two options for taking the test. Candidates can pay $249 to take the test at a Computer-based Testing facility (CBT) or pay $219 to take a pencil and paper exam. The computer testing option gives candidates immediate test score results. The CBT option also gives flexibility for scheduling the test.
There are over 400 CBT facilities throughout the world. Applicants will be able to choose a location when they register.
