The ACRN Exam is offered by the HIV/AIDS Nursing Certification Board (HANCB) as a way to test a candidates understanding of current HIV Nursing standards and procedures and to promote continuing education in regards to HIV Nursing.
Applicants must be:
* A licensed registered nurse in the US or have an equivalent licensure from a foreign institution.
* Able to prove at least two years of experience in practice, management, or education related to HIV/AIDS environments, including nursing. This is not required but highly recommended.
To take the exam applicants must fill out an application and submit the required registration fee of $400 plus an additional $100 testing center fee for those with special needs, or $260 plus the $100 testing center fee if the applicant is a current ANAC member.
Candidates are allotted four hours to complete the 250 multiple choice questions in the exam. The topics covered may include any of the following:
* Epidemiology and Prevention
* Pathophysiology
* Clinical Management
* Psychosocial Issues
* Specific Populations
* Ethical and Legal Topics
* Professional and Institutional Topics
The majority of the questions will revolve around psychosocial issues and clinical manifestations. Applicants should be prepared on the day of the exam by reviewing and studying content related to the aforementioned topics.
The ACRN Exam is offered quarterly and administered in designated testing centers throughout the US. The ACRN exam registration deadlines usually end two months prior to the test date.
