The Addiction Counselor Exam prepares applicants for Master Addictions Counselor, IC&RC, NAADAC, CAADAC, or CAAP-1 & CAAP-2 Exams that are offered through a variety of state licensing institutions, International consortiums, and boards.
The NAADAC Exam prepares candidates for substance abuse challenges relating to care-giving, adolescent difficulties, and substance specific training. There are two levels of NAADAC certifications, including National Certified Addiction counselor Level I and Level II. Applicants can also be certified as Master Addiction Counselors and Tobacco Addiction Specialists.
Candidates who wish to receive certification in either Level I certification must have:
* A state certificate or license to be a substance abuse counselor
* At least 270 hours of substance abuse counselor training, plus an additional six hours of ethics and HIV/AIDS training.
* Three years full time work or the equivalent of 6,000 hours of supervised experience as a substance abuse counselor.
Level II certification requires:
* A Bachelor’s degree in addiction counseling from a reputed institution.
* State license in counseling
* 450 hours of substance abuse counselor training, plus an additional six hours of ethics and HIV/AIDS training.
* Five years full time work or the equivalent of 10,000 hours of supervised experience as a substance abuse counselor.
The NAADAC Exam costs can be reduced by becoming a NAADAC member. Level I and Level II Addiction Counselor certification exams cost $305.00 for non-members and $235.00 for members.
The Addiction Counselor Exam from the NAADAC can be taken quarterly. Applications typically must be submitted a full two months in advance of scheduled test dates.
All NAADAC exams are offered at PSI/LaserGrade testing centers found throughout the US.
