The AFAA Certified Personal Fitness Trainer Exam offered by the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) gives applicants the certification they need to become a personal trainer.
To be eligible to take the AFAA Certified Personal Fitness Trainer Exam applicants must:
* Be 18 years of age
* Have a current CPR certificate
* Have weight room and weight training experience
The AFAA certification exam can be taken online, in a two session independently monitored. An additional question and answer session with an AFAA trainer conducted online. The first part of the exam is comprised of 120 multiple choice questions.
* Applicants will be tested on the following topics:
* Understanding Wellness
* Exercise Physiology
* Anatomy and Kinesiology
* Health Screening
* Fitness Assessment
* Cardio Programming
* Muscular Strength and Endurance
* Applied Resistance
* Injury Prevention
* Special Populations
* Ethics and Legal Issues
By paying the $489.00 application fee, a student also receives 14 training episodes streamed to their home computer, a personal training study guide, and a variety of tools to assist in the test taking. Independent sessions with AFAA trainers can be purchased for additional fees.
All applications include a one year membership to the AFAA.
Applicants must pass both the multiple-choice questions and accompanying AFAA instructor session to obtain certification.
Exams can be scheduled at any time, assuming the applicant has proper CPR certification and pays the suggested fee.
The AFAA often has specials where they offer the entire Certified Personal Fitness Trainer Exam package at a reduced rate.
