AFQT Study Guide Review

The Armed Forces Qualification Test (AFQT) offered by the Department of Defense prepares applicants for duty in the Armed Forces.

The AFQT is part of the larger ASVAB test conducted by the Armed Forces to determine eligibility for enlistment. A person taking the ASVAB test will also be taking the underlying AFQT test to determine if the applicant qualifies in four key areas, including:

* Arithmetic Reasoning
* Word Knowledge
* Paragraph Comprehension
* Mathematics Knowledge

Applicants are encouraged to take practice exams to determine their overall AFQT test quotient. A passing score can mean the difference between acceptance into the military and non-acceptance.
Since the AFQT exam is part of the overall ASVAB exam, applicants must prepare for a wide variety of topics, including:

* General Science aptitude
* Arithmetic Reasoning
* World Knowledge
* Paragraph comprehension
* Mathematics Knowledge
* Electronics
* Auto and Shop
* Mechanical Comprehension

The ASVAB is comprised of 200 questions. Test takers are given approximately three hours to complete the multiple choice questions.

High school students usually take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) during school hours. If a school does not offer the ASVAB test, a recruiter for the Armed Services can schedule a test for any applicant, anytime. There is no cost associated with the ASVAB.

The AFQT Exam uses about half the ASVAB information to determine a person’s aptitude for military service. Studying for those key elements will both help applicants receive favorable marks in the AFQT and help achieve higher scores on the overall ASVAB test.
