The American Registry for Diagnostics Medical Sonography (ARDMS) offers ARDMS Certification Exams so practitioners can become Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (RDMS).
Sonographers have the option of receiving examination to prove proficiency with any of the following areas:
* Abdomen
* Adult Echocardiography
* Breast
* Fetal Echocardiography
* Obstetrics & Gynecology
* Neurosonology
* Pediatric Echocardiography
* Vascular Technology
ARDMS currently offers credentials in Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer, Registered Vascular Technologist, and Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation.
Each of the credential exams requires proficiency in a few of the examination topics we illustrated. For instance, Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer will need to complete exams for Adult Echocardiography, Fetal Echocardiography, as well as Pediatric Echocardiography.
The different ARDMS Certification Exams can be registered for online and have to be paid for separately. All ARDMS exams require the applicant to meet eligibility requirements set forth by that particular exam. Typically an applicant will need to prove they meet education requirements, hours spent in the field on the particular exam topic, and provide documentation as evidence of fulfilling the requirements. ARDMS offers several prerequisite routes for applicants to take.
Most of the exams cost $200 with a $100 non-refundable processing fee. The RPVI credential costs $500 which includes a $100 non-refundable fee.
The various exams are administered in testing centers found throughout the US. On the exam day, applicants will be required to show two forms of signature ID, and one of the IDs must be a government issued photo id that is still valid.
