The Art Therapy Exam is offered by the Art Therapy Credentials Board (ATCB) in order for applicants to achieve registered status as an Art Therapist – Board Certified (ATR-BC).
Applicants who wish to receive their board certification as an Art Therapist must first prove the following:
* Must be current Registered Art Therapist (ATR) with the ATCB.
* Be involved in the mental health field, which includes counselors, marriage and family therapists, social workers, psychologists, addictions counselors, psychiatric nurses, and psychiatrists.
* Applicants must have direct hours in contact with patients, i.e. therapeutic sessions.
* Each applicant must supply three references with their application.
Each year’s ATCB conference has an accreditation exam available to members, but those who cannot attend the annual conference can request the test given in a testing center for $300.
After taking the exam, applicants will receive written correspondence from the ATCB informing them of their score and whether they received the accreditation.
Members who have received the ATCB Credential have it for five years. After that time, they must re-certify by proving they have received 100 hours of continuing education credits, with six credits earned in Ethics conduct.
The Art Therapy Test topics may include any of the following:
* Structural Family Therapy
* Speech and Language
* Anxiety
* Triangular Relationships
* Domestic Violence
* Group Therapy
* Tolerance
* Metaphors
* Couple’s Therapy
* Dependence
The exam will also feature many more topics relevant to the field. An applicant should study, review, and prepare ahead of type.
