CAAP Study Guide Review

The Collegiate Assessment of Academic Proficiency (CAAP) Exam offered by the ACT, Inc. certifies postsecondary institutions general education outcomes. Institutions generally use the CAAP exam as a way to test their student body on general knowledge regarding math, science, reading, writing and comprehension. The test helps the institution develop lesson plans and to determine what needs to be worked on more.

Each institution determines when to schedule their CAAP exam. The institution has a choice of six different modules, with varying levels of local questions that can be added to each. The modules are as follows:

* Reading
* Writing Skills
* Writing Essay
* Mathematics
* Science
* Critical Thinking

Each module has an allotted time of 40 minutes, giving those administering the test ample time to setup instructions and begin the exam within a 50 minute timeframe. Each of the modules has many forms, meaning the questions will not be the same across all institutions. This enables the exam to continue being effective in the long term.

Since the modules can be added or removed according to the institutions desires, the institutions can order the parts that work for their student body. Each module contains different style of questions. Of course, the writing essay module contains essay writing questions, while many of the others contain multiple choice questions for the student to answer.

The CAAP can gauge outcome and determine performance gain across a number of subjects. The ACT suggest each institution use both the writing skills and writing essay modules to properly gauge the student’s writing ability.
