The Collegiate Assessment of Academic Proficiency (CAAP) Exam is offered by the ACT, Inc. The CAAP Exam is used to gauge a student’s overall achievement level based on national averages.
The CAAP is a volunteer assessment test offered on many campuses nationwide. The test is composed of six different modules that can be specifically tailored to an institutions needs. For more information on the modules included in the CAAP exam on your campus, contact the administrator or teacher in control of the test.
The CAAP is a multi-feature test that assesses student achievement levels in a variety of modules, including:
* Reading
* Writing Skills
* Writing Essay
* Mathematics
* Science
* Critical Thinking
The modules do not all follow the same form. Some are multiple choice questions, and of course the writing essay test has the student write an essay. The writing essay test module is a timed module with six points possible for each question. Students lose or gain by increments of .5, according to the requirements of the individual question.
The CAAP testing schedule depends wholly on the institution providing the exam. This schedule usually runs prior to any ACT testing done on the campus, so it’s likely near the end of the spring semester. Students may be required to pay an application fee to take the test. It is highly unlikely any student would not be accepted to take the CAAP, as it is a purely voluntary assessment meant to help students gain an understanding of their overall performance.
