CAAP Study Guide

The Collegiate Assessment of Academic Proficiency (CAAP) offered by the ACT, Inc. gives academic institutions a variety of exam tools for use in their admission protocol. The CAAP can be tailored to specific institutional needs and tests students across different subjects using modules. The test modules may also have individualized questions added to each module to make them more useful as local test assessments for specialized academic programs and standards.

Each CAAP module test has a time limit of 40 minutes. The session may last 50 minutes to allow time for start delays and instructions. There are currently six different test modules that students may face.

* Writing Essay
* Writing Skills
* Math
* Reading
* Science
* Critical Thinking

Of course the writing modules require the student to actually write. The other modules present questions in multiple choice format. The student will have four choices, with one being the correct answer. The modules are graded on a scale that signifies 40 as below average, 60 as the median, and 80 as the high. Students and school administration receive reports on each student grade that shows how well the student has fared compared to national averages. This report can be used to create new course content, admit a student to a particular program, and designated certain types of learning for a student’s particular skill set.

The CAAP are most often administered on institutional facilities either by computer-based or paper and pencil means. The test scores will be mailed to the student after completion.
