CAHSEE Study Guide Review

The California Department of Education requires Californian high school students to take the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) before they are conferred with their high school diploma, in addition to other requirements for graduation imposed by their own schools.

The CAHSEE is geared towards preparing Californian high school students in the areas of writing, reading and mathematics. This is a relatively new exam, first administered in 2006. Since then, a lot have questioned its legality, particularly since no similar test is conducted in other states. But until now, this legal issue has yet to be resolved with finality.

The CAHSEE is composed to 2 major parts:
* English-Language Arts
o This requires the student to write an essay 2 1/2 pages long on a given topic predetermined by the Department of Education examiners.
o In addition, there are 79 multiple-choice questions on English and language.
* Mathematics
o This part consists of 92 multiple-choice questions.

Many have expressed worry over the difficulty of the exam, especially in the mathematics portion. However, the Department of Education has assured all California high schools that a high school student can pass the math portion of the CAHSEE if he has a satisfactory foundation in pre-algebra. This means that all the student needs to know is Grade 7 math, and he is sure to pass.

A CAHSEE examinee may do the following online:
* Search for a list of review resources and preparatory lessons available
* Upload pre-ID files
* Order test materials and other supplemental materials
* View test results at the official CAHSEE website through a user ID and password
