The Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) Credential Examination offered by the Project Management Institute (PMI) qualifies a successful test taker as a CAPM but also means that individual has a relevant and clear understanding of what it takes for effective project management experience.
In order to sit for the CAPM Exam, the candidate must first meet the eligibility requirements set by the PMI. These include having at least earned a secondary diploma (i.e. a high school diploma) as well as accrued at least 1,500 hours of experience or 23 hours project management educational credits.
The CAPM consists of 150 multiple-choice questions. The candidate has three hours to complete the exam. The exam is computer-based and can be taken anytime throughout the year, so long as the application has been approved. The exam sites are located throughout the world and offer convenient locations for most major cities in the US and Canada as well as European countries. On the exam day, candidates should bring confirmation of their scheduled exam, at least two forms of photo identification, and any other material the PMI requires.
The cost of the exam runs PMI members $225, while non-members must pay $300. The certification is good for five years at which point the candidate must retake the exam to comply with recertification. There is no annual fee to retain active certification.
The exam will cover many different topics, but most notable would be finance, marketing, research, fulfillment duties, processing of orders, deadlines, management skills, and ethics.
