The Cardiac/Vascular Nurse Exam offered by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) certifies nurses in the Cardiac/Vascular specialization.
Nurses who wish to take the Cardiac/Vascular Exam must meet the eligibility requirements set forth by the ANCC.
* Must have an active RN license in any state of the US.
* Need full time employment history of 2 years as an RN.
* Applicants need at least 2,000 hours of work in the Cardiac/Vascular field in order to take the exam.
* Must have 30 hours of education related to cardiac/vascular courses within the past 3 year.
Nurses must prove years of experience working with Cardiac/Vascular patients, minimum education levels, and also pass the accreditation exam in order to become Cardiac/Vascular Nurses. Once the applicant passes the ANCC certification exam, they will be awarded the RN-BC accreditation.
Applicants can download a PDF application from the ANCC website. The application has to be completely accurate with documented proof, including education, work history, and RN licensure verification. The exam costs $390 for non-members and $270 for members. Re-certification has to be done every five years at a cost of $350 for non-members and $200 for members.
The exam is done in computer based testing centers throughout the US. Applicants will have a 90 day window to schedule and take the test at one of the convenient locations.
The exam has a total of 150 questions on the following domains:
* Pathophysiology and the manifestation of cardiac and vascular disease
* Communication
* Leadership
* Care provisions
* Patient, family, and caregiver education
* Psychosocial aspects of cardiac-vascular disease
* Legal issues
