The College Basic Academic Subjects Examination (CBASE) is an assessment of the general education of students. General education refers to the knowledge and skills that should be acquired by all students regardless of their specific field of study. It is often included in the core curriculum of a university or college. The examination focuses on 4 categories:
* Mathematics
* English
* Science
* Social Studies.
Interpretive and reasoning skills are also assessed. Completion of the examination is required for all graduating students. Students who have completed at least 96 hours are eligible to take the test. However, it is recommended to take the examination during the semester when the student is set to graduate.
Passing or failing the examination does not affect the graduation or non-graduation of students. Rather, the exam is used to measure whether the universities’ educational goals are accomplished. Accreditation agencies use the results to determine if a particular curriculum needs improvement. Development of new programs, services, and operations will be based on the students’ performance in this test.
Students who are going to take the exam should bring their verification form, photo ID, 2 sharpened pencils and a standard calculator.
The CBASE lasts for 3 to 4 hours, including the orientation and distribution of materials and a short break during the examination. Each test is timed and no one is allowed to leave early. Students leaving before the period ends will have their answers voided and will be required to retake the CBASE at a later time. Those who fail to pass any section may retake and pass that section within 2 years from admission. If a student fails to pass the failed part within 2 years, he will be required to retake the entire examination.
