CBET Study Guide Review

The CBET Exam is offered by the Association of Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) to grant ICC certification as Biomedical Equipment Technician.

Those who wish to take the CBET Exam must first meet the requirements set forth by the AAMI, including:
Must have one of the following:

* Associate’s degree in a biomedical program and 2 years of biomedical work experience
* Associate’s degree in electronics technology and 3 years of biomedical work experience
* Four years of full time biomedical work experience

Additionally, those who are CLES applicants can meet one of the following requirements to be eligible:

* Associate’s degree in medical laboratory technology and 3 year of biomedical work experience
* Bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory technology and 2 years of biomedical work experience.
The CBET Exam costs $295 to take, with a $100 special testing center fee tacked on for those who need special assistance. A group discount of $40 applies to larger groups taking the CBET. Applicants can find the application forms on the AAMI website.

The CBET Exam covers the following topics:
* Anatomy and Physiology
* Public Safety
* Fundamentals of Electricity, Electronics, and Solid-State Devices
* Medical Equipment
* Equipment Troubleshooting

The test is composed of 150 multiple choice questions with the majority of the questions being related to Medical Equipment operation and purpose.

The CBET is offered four times a year. Applicants must have their applications in 8 weeks prior to their desired exam date.
