CBET Study Guide

The ICC Certification for Biomedical Equipment Technicians (CBET) offered by the Association for Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) qualifies candidates as certified Biomedical Equipment Technicians (BMET).

Candidates who wish to take the CBET must first meet at least one of the eligibility requirements set by the AAMI.

CBET Study Guide* Have an associate’s degree in biomedical academic program in addition to two years of full time BMET experience
* Have an associate’s degree in electronics technology and an additional three years of full time work experience
* Have four years of full time BMET work experience

The cost of the CBET is $295 for all candidates. The fee must be paid at the time of applying. Candidates can only apply for the exam up to six weeks prior to the exam date, so be sure to file the application and fee well in advance of the scheduled date you desire.

The content of the CBET goes as follows:

* Anatomy and Physiology
* Public Safety
* Fundamentals of Electricity, Electronics, and Solid State Devices
* Medical Equipment Functions & Operation
* Medical Equipment Troubleshooting

The CBET exam is administered at computer-based testing centers located nationwide. If for any reason, the nearest testing center is further than 250 miles away, then the candidate can request a special testing site. There is a $100 for any special accommodations. On the exam day, candidates should arrive at least a half hour early and bring at least two forms of photo identification. This will ensure they are on time and validated to take the exam.
