The CBIC Exam is offered by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc. to grant successful applicants with certification as CIC professionals.
Applicants who wish to take the CBIC Exam must first meet the following requirements:
* Applicants no longer need two years of infection control experience, but the test does put forth questions that only a person with clinical experience would understand. It is still recommended to have at least adequate experience in the field.
Those who wish to take the test should also consider the definition CBIC puts forth as Infection Control Practice, including:
* Those who analyze and interpret collected data
* Those who investigate outbreaks as they occur.
The CBIC also considers the following individuals to be suited for the CBIC Exam:
* Those who implement infection control prevention techniques
* Those who educate others about the possible risks of infections and institute policies in regards to those risks
* Those who manage infection or prevention activities in their workplace
* Those who consult on possible risks of infections
For those obtaining the CIC certification for the first time, the CBIC requires a $310 fee to take the exam. Re-certification can be purchased for $275 and taken at computer based testing facility or by SARE for $340.
The SARE is a new online testing format where applicants take the exam through a secure web based seating. The applicant is emailed login information and an available testing window. All tests are scored at the end of the taking and applicants know their results immediately. However, scores are then vetted for accuracy, so certification is not immediate.
