The CCHEST Exam is offered by the Council on Certification of Health, Environment and Safety Technologists (CCHEST) to certify successful applicants as a Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST) or Construction Health and Safety Technicians (CHST).
Those who wish to be certified as OHST technicians must first meet the following eligibility requirements:
* Must work full or part time in the occupational health field
* Must have five years of experience in occupational health or safety field
* On job responsibilities must require knowledge of occupational health
Those who wish to be certified as CHSTs must first meet the following eligibility requirements:
* Have a high school diploma as well as be OSHA instructors with forty hours of training in construction safety. Candidates can also have three years of construction experience with an associate’s degree or better in safety or health. Candidate must have at least nine semester credits in a health and safety related courses
* Applicants need an Associate’s degree with one year of health and safety work experience or three years of full time work experience.
The cost of taking the CHST or OHST exam is $140 plus an additional $265 computer testing fee. The exam is administered through a secure web based system. Candidates need to pay fees up front and they will be emailed with a secure password to access the test. The test is only available for a short time frame. Applicants will see their results immediately on screen, but all test scores are vetted to ensure accuracy. Certification confirmation will be received via mail.
