CCRN Study Guide Review

The CCRN Exam is offered by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) and provides certification for qualified applicants as Certified Critical Care Nurses.

Those who wish to take the CCRN exam must first meet the AACN eligibility requirements:

* Applicants need a current and valid RN or APRN license from the US.
* RNs or APRNs need to have accumulated over 1,750 hours of bedside care dealing with acute or critical patients. The experience has to have been received over the past 24 months. In addition, 875 of the hours must have come in the previous 12 months. Managers and those in a supervising role can accrue hours spent teaching a new nurse or others how to care for a patient.
* All applicants must provide the name and address of a professional associate. At times, the AACN audits applicants and calls the reference to verify application information.

The CCRN Exam is comprised of 150 multiple choice questions. The candidate will have 3 hours to complete the exam. The CCRN, like all AACN certification exams, can be taken at any computer based testing center found throughout the US. There are over 270 locations where the test can be administered. The applicant will be able to choose a desired location nearest and most convenient to their geographical location.
The majority of the exam centers on adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients. Applicants studying for the exam should focus on clinical judgment for the basis of the exam focus.
