The CCTN Exam is offered by the American Board for Transplant Certification for applicants to become certified as a Certified Clinical Transplant Nurse (CCTN).
Applicants who wish to sit for the CCTN exam must first meet the following eligibility requirement set forth by the CCTN:
* Applicant must have been a licensed RN for the past 24 months. The most recent 12 month period has to been spent dealing directly with solid organ transplant patient care.
The CCTN Exam is composed of 175 multiple choice questions of which 150 will be graded for accuracy. Candidates will have three hours to complete the exam.
The exam is composed of questions that will determine a person understands transplant patient care. The focus of the exam may be on several different organs, not just one single organ. It is imperative to review and understand proper care for patients undergoing all types of organ transplants.
The CCTN Exam fee costs $425. The ABTC has strict guidelines for forfeiture of fee, so applicants should schedule the exam time wisely. The ABTC requires candidates who pass the CCTN to recertify every three years. They offer two ways to do so. The candidate can prove they have undergone continuing education in relation to transplant nursing methodology and technology or re-take the CCTN exam.
The CCTN exam is administered in over 170 AMP Assessment Centers found throughout the US. If the ABTC approve a candidate’s application, they will receive a letter with a confirmation number. They use the number to log into the AMP Assessment center to schedule an exam date. Exams can often be scheduled and taken the same week the applicant receives confirmation.
