The Certified Hyperbaric Technologist (CHT) Exam offered by the National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology (NBDHMT) qualifies successful candidates as Certified Hyperbaric Technologists (CHT).
In order to take the CHT Exam, a candidate must first meet NBDHMT eligibility requirements. The candidate must be employed as one of the following in order to take the exam.
* Physiologist
* Certified Medical Assistant
* Respiratory Therapist
* Physician Assistant
* Certified Nurse Aid
* Military Corpsman
* EMT
* RN/LPN
* Nurse Practitioner
* Physician
Candidate must also have a high school diploma, successfully completed a NBDHMT hyperbaric technologist introductory course, complete the oxygen monitoring (TCOM) module, have at least 480 hours of undersea, and hyperbaric medicine experience. To maintain their credential, candidates need to complete 12 continuing education credits every two years.
The CHT exam will last for two hours. During that time, candidates will be asked to answer multiple choice or true-false questions. The exam is administered at various times and locations throughout the year. Candidates can take the exam at the Annual Scientific Meeting of Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society and at the Society’s regional chapter meetings. Many educational institutions can administer the test if the candidate makes special arrangements.
The CHT exam costs $175 and must be paid when registering for the exam. The certification lasts for two years. If for whatever reason the candidate does not pass with a 70% or better on the first attempt, they must wait six months to retake the exam.
