The Certified Treasury Professional Exam offered by the Association for Financial Professionals Inc. (AFP) certifies successful test takers as Certified Treasury Professional (CTP).Candidates must have at least two or more years of full time experience working in a finance related field. Those with less than two years can still take the exam if they have a graduate degree in finance or two years of full time university academic teach experience in a finance related subject.
The CTP Exam is meant for treasury professionals who work with corporate funds, capital funds, and handle risk management roles in their workplace. Because of this, only individuals with a clear understanding of:
* Corporate liquidity
* Cash position
* Forecasting of short-term and long-term investments
* Management of assets and liabilities in regards to capital investment
* The risks and control factors involved when dealing with corporate funds
* Optimization strategies for capital structures
* International trade guidelines and procedures for moving money between borders
* Communication needs at the corporate level, specifically regarding financial in-house information sharing techniques and procedures
* Ethics and financial law as it relates to corporate finance
The Certified Treasury Professional designation sets treasury professionals apart from other candidates in the modern corporate workforce. Eligibility for the exam rests on clear understanding of corporate finance, and work experience related to the aforementioned topics. Candidates should request an information bulletin from the CTP if they feel they are qualified in regards to education, work experience, and character.
The CTP certification lasts for a period of three years, at which point CTPs have to prove they earned 36 hours of continuing education credits to maintain their certification.
