The Certified Hyperbaric Technologist (CHT) Exam offered by the National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology (NBDHMT) certifies individuals as Certified Hyperbaric Technologist (CHT).
Those who wish to take the CHT Exam must meet the eligibility requirements laid out by the NBDHMT. The board only offers CHT to those who work in one of the following professions:
* Respiratory Therapist
* Physician Assistant
* Military Corpsman
* Medical Services Specialist
* EMT
* Paramedic
* Registered Nurse (RN)
* LPN
* Doctors
* Life Support Aid
* Certified Nurse Aid (CNA)
* Certified Medical Assistant
* Physiologist
In addition, candidates must be at least 18 years old, complete the NBDHMT preliminary coursework, pass the Transcutaneous Oxygen Monitoring (TCOM) Module, accrue up to 480 hours of undersea hyperbaric medicine or aviation medicine experience. Candidates must complete 12 continuing education credits in aviation, hyperbaric, or undersea medicine to maintain their credentials.
On the exam, candidates will be asked to answer a variety of question pertaining to the following:
* Gas Systems
* Chamber Operations and Environment
* Clinical Skills
* General Clinical Knowledge
The CHT Exam time runs two hours. Candidates will be asked to answer multiple choice and true or false questions. Candidates can apply for the exam online, at which time they will be asked to prove they meet the requirements to take the exam and to pay the $175 examination fee. A $100 fee is assessed for recertification. Those who wish to recertify will have to pay the fee and also prove continuing education credits to be considered.
