The Certified Medical Assistant Exam offered by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) certifies those who successfully pass the exam as Certified Medical Assistant (CMA).
Applicants who wish to sit for the CMA Exam must first meet the following eligibility requirements set forth by the AAMA:
* Complete a CAAHEP or ABHES accredited medical assisting courses. The program may fall into any category as follows:
o Human anatomy
o Bookkeeping
o Lab techniques
o Pharmacology
o Office duties
o Computer duties
o First aid
o Patient relations
o Medical law and ethics
The AAMA requires a $125 fee for AAMA members and $250 for non-members to take the CMA Exam. After successfully applying, the candidate will receive a letter in the mail detailing how to schedule the exam time and location. The CMA exam is administered at Prometric testing centers throughout the US.

The CMA Exam consists of 200 multiple choice questions. Candidates will be granted three hours and fifteen minutes to fully complete the exam. As mentioned, the exam is administered at computer based testing centers throughout the US. The exam can be applied for and taken at any time of the year.
