CMT Study Guide Review

The Certified Medical Transcriptionist (CMT) Exam offered by the Association for Health Documentation Integrity (AHDI) certifies successful test takers as Certified Medical Transcriptionist (CMT).
Those who wish to sit for the CMT Exam must first meet the eligibility requirements set forth by the AHDI:

* The CMT Exam is open for any qualified candidate, as defined by having at least a Professional Level 2 understanding of medical transcription.

* While anyone can take the exam, AHDI recommends candidates have at least two full years experience in acute care. Acute care is defined as medical center dictation where the candidate incorporates the use of ESL dictators and handles creating many different report types. Surgery dictation and other related duties will help to pass the CMT Exam.

The CMT Exam is offered through Prometric testing centers located throughout the United States. Candidates need to apply with AHDI to sit for the exam. Once accepted, the candidate will receive mailed instructions on how to register for the exam at the Prometric testing center.

Candidates are alloted four hours to complete the exam. The test takes place at a computer and candidates will be given headphones supplied by the testing center in order to listen to audio clips for the practical application portion of the exam. The audio play can be controlled by the computer mouse for reversing or forwarding mechanisms. The exam is a mixture of practical application and multiple choice questions. Test results will be made available on-screen immediately after completing the test.

The CMT Exam requires a $195 registration fee for AHDI members and $275 for non-members.
