The Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) Exam offered by National League for Nursing (NLN) certifies successful test takers as Certified Nurse Educator (CNE).
Those who wish to sit for the CNE Exam must first meet the following eligibility requirements set forth by the NLN. The NLN offers several paths to acceptance.
A candidate must fulfill one of the following experience requirements:
* Be a licensed Nurse (RN) in the US, have a master’s degree or doctoral degree in nursing, and have two years of full time employment experience in the academic role within the past five years.
* Be a licensed Nurse (RN) in the US, have a master’s or doctoral degree in nursing (with an emphasis on nurse education), and have four years of full time employment experience in the academic faculty role within the past five years.
Candidates need to meet the requirements at the time of application.
The CNE Exam will be based on the following areas of knowledge:
* Learning Facilitation
* Learner Development
* Assessment and Evaluation Strategies
* Curriculum Design and Program Results
* Continuous Improvement in Academic Roles
* Scholarships, Service, and Leadership
* Leadership
* Teaching Scholarships
* Functioning within Academia
The NLN schedules the CNE Exam in blocks of time three times a year. Registration typically opens three months in advance of the scheduled exam block date. NLN members pay $375 and non-members pay $475 to take the CNE test. Those who do not pass the first time can retest with a discount of $50 off the exam fee.
