The Certified Nephrology Nurse (CNN), Certified Nephrology Nurse – Nurse Practitioner (CNN-NP) and Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT) Examination offered by the Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission (NNCC) qualifies successful candidates as Certified Nephrology Nurse (CNN), Certified Nephrology Nurse – Nurse Practitioner (CNN-NP) or Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT).
For all three of these certificates, the candidate must hold a valid RN license issued from the US. In addition, it’s required the candidate have at least two years of nephrology experience as a registered nurse. This means that the candidate needs at least two years work experience with at least one year of that time going towards nephrology nursing. In addition, the candidate needs a bachelor’s in nursing or a master’s in a nursing degree. The applicant also needs 30 contact hours within the previous three years in addition to accruing continuing education credits.
The CNN exam consists of 200 questions. Candidates will have four hours to complete the exam. Many of the other NNCC exams consist of the same test blueprint. All NNCC exams are administered at computer-based testing centers. So candidates will need to file their application, wait for approval, then submit their request for a specific testing center. On the exam day, candidates should plan to arrive at least a half hour early and bring along at least two forms of photo identification.
