The CNOR Examination offered by the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN) and Competency & Credentialing Institute (CCI) (AORN) qualifies successful candidates as operating room nurses.
In order for a candidate to take the CNOR exam, they must first meet AORN eligibility requirements.
* Candidate must have a valid RN license
* Candidate needs to have accrued 2,400 hour as an operating room nurse
* Candidate must be employed as a surgical nurse at the time of applying
The CNOR Exam runs $295 for AORN members or $375 for non-members.Candidates must submit the fee with their application. The certification lasts for a period of five years. At which time the candidate will need to show they have continuing education credits and also pay a fee.
The CNOR Exam consists of 200 multiple choice questions. Candidates will have three hours and forty five minutes to complete the exam. The exam is administered at CCI computer-based testing centers. Candidates will be able to schedule their exam at a convenient location nearest them after receiving approval on their application. On the exam day, candidates should plan to arrive at least a half hour early and bring two forms of photo identification.
Questions on the CNOR may come from a variety of topic areas. The candidate should have a firm understanding of perioperative practice, asepsis, instrument selection, sponges, sharps, patient assessment, wound management, positioning, and pharmacology. There will also be questions about patient and family support, special populations, ambulatory surgery, and legal issues.
