The Certified Neuroscience Registered Nurse (CNRN) Examination offered by the American Association of Neuroscience Nurses (AANN) and American Board of Neuroscience Nursing (ABNN) qualifies successful candidates as Certified Neuroscience Registered Nurses (CNRN).
In order for a candidate to sit for the CNRN Exam, they must first meet the eligibility requirements set by the AANN.
* The candidate must have a current and valid RN license issued from the US.
* In the past five years, the candidate needs to have achieved at least two years of full time neuroscience nursing practice. This is the equivalent of 4,160 hours of both direct and indirect practice. Indirect practice involves supervising others, while direct is hands-on time.
The application for the CNRN exam needs to be accompanied by the examination fee. Candidates will need to pay $250 if they are AANN members, $335 as non-members, or $358 to both join AANN and register for the test. Candidates must submit their applications during a set time frame, as the CNRN exam is only administered twice a year.
The CNRN exam is a 220 multiple choice questions exam. Of the 220 questions, only 200 will be counted towards the final grade. A candidate may be questioned on any level of care and also be asked to analyze and interpret during the test session. It’s important for the candidate to showcase above average problem solving skills along with the proper skill set in order to achieve a proper score.
The following domains will be used to determine many of the content questions:
* Basic Physiology
* Complex Physiology
* Behavioral
* Family
* Safety
* Health System
