The Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN) Exam and Certified Occupational Health Nurse Specialist (COHN-S) Exam offered by the American Board for Occupational Health Nurses, Inc. (ABOHN) qualifies successful candidates as Certified Occupational Health Nurses or Certified Occupational Health Nurse Specialists.

In order for a candidate sit for either of these exams, they must first meet eligibility requirements.

* Candidates will need to have a valid and unencumbered RN license issued from the US for both the COHN and the COHN-S
* The COHN has no specified education requirement, but the COHN-S requires a bachelor’s degree or higher.
* Candidates should have accrued a total of 3,000 hours in occupational health work experience within the past five years or completed a certificate program in occupational health from an accredited program to take the COHN. The COHN-S requires either 3,000 hours in occupational health in the past five years, a certificate program, or graduate level of education with the focus on occupational health.

Both of the exams consist of 150 multiple choice questions. Candidates can take the computer-based exams at any number of convenient locations found nationwide. The tests are administered at AMP testing centers that can be found in most major cities throughout the country. On the exam day, candidates should plan to arrive at least a half hour early and bring two forms of photo identification.

The COHN and COHN-S exams run $125 for the application fee and $350 for the exam fee. The ABOHN office will file an invoice in the amount of the exam fee after approving an application. Candidates will have 90 days to pay the fee.
