The Certified Office Laboratory Technician (COLT) Examination offered by the American Medical Technologists (AMT) qualifies successful candidates as Certified Office Laboratory Technicians (COLT).
In order for a candidate to sit for the COLT exam, they must meet AMT eligibility requirements.
* The candidate needs to hold an associate’s in medical technology from an accredited institution or have two years of courses in any accredited college with at least 25 hours in disciplines related to medical technology. The candidate can also be a trained in the military for at least 50 weeks. The education requirements must have been achieved within the past five years.
The COLT exam runs $130 from the AMT site. This pays for the application process and the testing fee. The exam consists of multiple choice questions revolving around the following topic areas:
* General Laboratory
* Chemistry
* Hematology
* Immunology
* Microbiology
* Urinalysis
Candidates will do their best when they delve deep into these topics areas and understand most of the general knowledge, special content areas, and developed researched areas. The main focus when studying should be on retaining information for later use. The exam may present certain questions in a way that the candidate needs to analyze and interpret the correct response. Candidates should spend time with major concepts behind each content area, as there may be trickier questions related to them.
The COLT exam is administered at computer based testing centers located nationwide. The candidate will be able to choose from a number of locations for one nearest them.
