The Cooperative Admissions Examination Program (COOP) Exam is administered to students in the eighth grade hoping to attend a particular high school. The admissions program administers the exam. The test measures the student’s core abilities in reading, math, as well as measuring the student’s cognitive skills. The test is administered at Catholic schools to help the administrators to group students with the appropriate teaching level.
Depending on where the student encounters the exam, the cost and schedules may differ slightly. The test costs $40 in most cases. There is no retaking the exam, so the student only needs to pay for one test time. After applying for the exam, students will receive written confirmation of their exam date and location. Each student must bring this letter along with photo identification to the exam site.
The COOP Exam application process gives students the right to choose up to three high schools they wish to attend. The decision to choose one school over another should be done with parental consent.
The content of the COOP exam correctly corresponds to the legislative requirements for public schools standards. The students will be questioned via multiple choice questions. They will have to showcase their ability to reason and prove their mettle with various logical questions. Students may encounter questions based on numerical sequences, vocabulary, quantitative reasoning, basic math, language, grammar, or verbal reasoning.
The COOP exam is administered via paper and pencil. Students will receive notification in the mail on their test results, along with the schools indicated in the initial application process.
