The Registered Professional Reporter (RPR), Registered Merit Reporter (RMR), and Registered Diplomate Reporter (RDR) Exams offered by the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA) qualifies successful candidates respectively as Registered Professional Reporter (RDR), Registered Merit Reporter (RMR), or Registered Diplomate Reporter (RDR).
In order for a candidate to be eligible to take any of these three exams, they must first meet NCRA eligibility requirements. For the RPR exam, candidates need only be a registered NCRA member in good standing. The RMR requires candidates to have the RPR certification and also be a NCRA member in good standing. The RDR exam requires the candidate to have RMR certification with six years of membership in the NCRA.
The exams runs $175 for reporters or $140 for students.
The RPR exam consists of 105 multiple choice questions focusing on reporting, transcript production, operating practices, and professional ethics. The RMR consists of 105 multiple choice questions centered on most of the core RPR elements. The RDR exam consists of 105 multiple choice questions. Candidates can prepare for the RDR exam by studying reporting, transcript production, management, education, marketing, and professional ethics.
All three of the exams are administered at Pearson VUE testing centers located nationwide. The testing centers will require every candidate to bring at least two forms of photo identification with them to the exam site. In addition, they will also be required to show their confirmation letter from the NCRA at arrival. Failure to do so could result in not taking the test on the scheduled date.
