The Career Programs Assessment (CPAt) offered by the ACT, Inc. measures a student’s skills as they prepare to enter a career school or college. The test specifically tests students reading, numerical skills, and language usage.
The CPAt is a paper and pencil exam administered throughout the US. Candidates can take the exam in an hours time. It’s an effective test to measure how well a student will perform in entry level courses offered at most colleges. Students who take the exam will have immediate results from the testing center. There is no waiting weeks or a month for test results.
Candidates can expect the test format to be multiple choice. The reading portion of the exam will have passages of text for the student to read and answer questions from. Don’t expect the exam to solely be about knowledge. The student will also need to prove cognitive reasoning and math skills during that portion of the exam. The reading portion has brief comprehension style questions as well.
The CPAt is administered at various locations throughout the country. Each facility will have a cost associated with taking the exam, unless it is being offered for enrollment purposes. Typically the exam costs around $20 to take.
The three different sections of the exam can be gone over rather quickly. The language usage section only lasts for fifteen minutes. Students will be asked to answer questions related to grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, and spelling. The reading portion has comprehension style questions and the math portion covers basic arithmetic and problem solving skills.
