CPFT Study Guide

The Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT) Exam offered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) qualifies successful candidates as pulmonary function technologists.

The NBRC requires candidates to meet their eligibility requirements prior to applying for the CPFT Exam.

* The candidate must be 18 years old
* The candidate must fulfill an educational requirement or experience requirement. The NBRC does allow those with 62 college credit hours and at least six months of supervised clinical experience to take the exam.
* A person with a high school diploma and at least two years of experience in the field can take the exam as well.

The CPFT exam consists of 115 multiple choice questions. The candidate will be quizzed on three content areas, including data handling, diagnostic procedures, and instrument usage.

The CPFT Exam is administered at computer-based testing centers located nationwide. Candidates will be able to choose a convenient location nearest them after they have been approved to sit for the exam. The AMP testing centers provide safe and convenient ways for candidates to take this test. All candidates should be prepared on the exam day and bring two forms of photo identification along with any confirmation email or letter from the NBRC.

The CPRT Examination fee runs $200 for all new candidates or $170 for any retesting. The candidate will have a period of sixty days after being accepted for the exam to take the test. The test can be taken on any weekday, most weeks out of the year.
