The Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) Exam offered by the Association for Operations Management (APICS) qualifies successful candidates as Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) professionals.
Candidates, who wish to sit for the CPIM exam, must first meet eligibility requirements set by the APICS.
The CPIM exam is unique, in that candidates must complete five separate modular exams in order to receive certification. The five modules include: supply chain management, master planning of resources, detailed scheduling and planning, execution and control of operations, and strategic management of resources.
The CPIM exam is administered at Pearson VUE testing centers located nationwide. The exam can be taken both domestically or internationally. Fees and the sort may vary for those taking it outside the US. The CPIM Exam fee runs $155 for each exam for nonmembers or $120 for each exam for APICS members. Since there are five exams in total, a nonmember would need to pay $775 while members would only pay $600.
The Basic Supply Chain Management module contains 105 questions, with 80 of those counting towards a candidate’s final score. All other modules contain 75 multiple choice questions with 60 of them counting towards the final score. Candidates will have three hours to complete their module. Candidates need to score well on each module to achieve certification.
Since the exams are computer-based candidates can review their scores immediately following the exam. After all the scores have been tabulated from the five modules, candidates should receive certification via the mail within six week’s time. Candidates can retake specific modules to improve their grade.
