CQI Study Guide Review

The Quality Inspector Certification (CQI) examination is given to those who wish to be certified in the field of evaluating hardware documentation, performing laboratory procedures, inspecting and producing performance, recording data, and preparing formal reports.

In order to take the exam, one must have had 2 years worth of job experience in mechanical inspection or any field related to it, and a high school diploma or GED. If the latter is unavailable, then an additional 3-year related on-the-job training is required.

The CQI exam lasts for 4 hours. It is conducted twice a year, usually in March and in October, by local sections of the American Society for Quality (ASQ) and certain international organizations. It can likewise be taken at sites where World Conferences on Quality and Improvement are held.

It is an open-book examination, and all questions are multiple-choice. However, the examinee has to bring reference materials that he would like to use. The exam is conducted in English, although there are instances when the exam may be translated to another language, especially if it is administered in a country other than the United States. The ASQ website offers a complete listing of testing sites here and abroad.

The testing fee is $335. However, ASQ members only pay a discounted price of $175. Those who have previously failed the exam must pay a retake fee of $105. This retake fee is the same, whether the examinee is a member of the ASQ or not.

The ASQ sends by mail the examination results 4 weeks after the date of examination. An email is also sent to the applicant once exam results are available for viewing online.
