CRC Study Guide

The Certification Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) Examination offered by the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC) qualifies successful candidates as Certified Rehabilitation Counselors (CRC).

The CRCC has imposed eligibility requirements on those who wish to take the CRC exam. The requirements ask candidates to meet one eligibility route from many different options. The routes ask the candidate to have hours clocked in rehabilitation internship or employment in a similar field to be eligible. The range of education and experience varies with each route. Be sure to check the current guidelines for any adjustments to the eligibility routes.

The CRC Exam fee runs $385. Candidates who do not meet the requirements by the CRCC will receive a refund of $185. Those who have their application accepted will receive information on how to schedule their exam at a computer-based testing center. The testing centers are located nationwide and make for a convenient trip for most applicants.

Candidates will have three and a half hours to complete the CRC Exam. The test is comprised of 175 multiple choice questions based on a number of topic areas. The areas include career counseling, job development, caseload management, counseling for groups, individuals, and mental health, as well as cultural issues, medical issues, and functional ones. The candidate should also be well versed in legal aspects of client relationships and other professional issues.

The exam has two parts and candidates are required to pass both in order to achieve certification. Candidates can retake the exam if they fail either of the parts.
