The Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) Exam offered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) grants successful test takers the Certified Surgical Technologist certification.
Candidates who wish to take the CST exam must first meet NBSTSA eligibility standards.
* The candidate must have previously held CST certification or
* Completed a surgical technology program accredited by the CAAHEP or
* Completed a surgical technology program accredited by the ABHES
After determining eligibility, candidates need to file an application along with proof of their degree or previous certification along with the $499 registration fee. The certification lasts for four years, at which point the CST professional will need to recertify. This recertification process includes retaking the CST exam and earning continuing education credits for NBSTSA.
The CST exam is delivered at computer-based testing centers located throughout the US. The AMP testing centers are renowned for their safety, fairness, and objectivity for solid test taking atmosphere. After acceptance, candidates will be given information on how to schedule their exam.
The CST test consists of 200 multiple choice questions. Only 175 of the questions will be used for the final grade. The extra 25 questions are used to develop future tests. Candidates must answer 119 questions correctly in order to achieve a passing score.
