The Certified Wound Care Associate (CWCA) Exam offered by the American Academy of Wound Management (AAWM) grants successful test takers as Certified Wound Care Associates.
In order to sit for the CWCA Exam a candidate must first meet the eligibility requirements set by the AAWM.
* Candidates must have at least a high school diploma
* Candidates need at least three years of clinical experience
Registration for the exam runs $300 for the first time, and retests $150. There are no discounts for memberships. The test is administered at computer based testing centers located throughout the US. The Laser Grade testing centers handle the exam. After an application has been accepted, candidates will be able to schedule their exam date and location through a website. Instructions will be sent via email.
In order to stay current, those certified must pay a $125 annual fee after successfully receiving certification. This enables them to not have to take the exam again for ten years and keeps the certification valid.
Candidates will be expected to know the following content very well:
* Physical Assessments, including anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, diagnostic tests, vital signs, wound types, injuries, affected healing, and medical history.
* Patient Preparation, including transfers, comfort, pain, sterile, disinfecting, and infection control.
* Treatment, including compression, debridement, dressings, topical, hydrotherapy, physical agents, surgery, pressure management, and assisting with casting.
* Patient/Caregiver education, including dressings, compression, pressure reduction, skin care, shoe wear, rationale for treatment, hand washing, standard precautions, reinforcement of smoking cessation, and psychosocial issues.
* Administrative, including discharge measures, documentation, tools, maintenance, equipment, and patient care plans.
