The Dental Admission Test (DAT) offered by the American Dental Association (ADA) grants successful candidates with admission into a dental program.
Those who wish to sit for the DAT must first meet the eligibility requirements set by the ADA.
* Candidate must have successfully completed at least one year of collegiate coursework. The focus of the course credits should at least include Biology and Chemistry. Many students wait until after two years of collegiate activity to sit for the exam.
* Candidates must also provide proof of willingness to enroll in a dental school. Evidence may include a copy of an application, rejection letter, letter from the school, or other affidavit supporting the claim.
The DAT Exam is administered at computer-based testing centers located throughout the US. Prometric handles the tests for the ADA. After an application has been accepted, the candidate receives notification on how to schedule the exam, including the date and time. On the exam day, candidates need to arrive at least a half hour early with two forms of identification.
The DAT test takes four hours and fifteen minutes for all the sections to be completed. There is one optional break between the first two sections and the last two.
1. Survey of Natural Sciences
2. Perceptual Ability Test
3. Reading Comprehension Test
4. Quantitative Reasoning Test
The DAT registration fee runs $225. This fee covers taking the exam at the testing center, sending the results to five separate dental schools, and a personal copy sent to the candidate’s home.
