EPPP Study Guide

The Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP) offered by the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (ASPPB) allows successful applicants to become licensed psychologists.

In order for an applicant to sit for the EPPP, they must first meet the eligibility requirements set forth by the candidate’s state of residence. For instance, in Illinois a person wanting to be licensed as a psychologist must meet the state regulations to even be considered for the EPPP exam.

The ASPPB examination fee runs $450.00. If an applicant applies and does not meet the state’s required licensure standards, then the candidate will receive a refund minus a $75 service fee. Additionally the computer-based testing center will collect a $65.00 examination fee. So the total cost of the exam should be around $515 for most applicants. Certain local boards may have higher examination or application fees depending on overall costs.

After a candidate’s application has been accepted, they will receive information on how to schedule their exam at Prometric testing centers located throughout the US. Candidates have a 60 day window to schedule and take the exam.

The EPPP is administered over a four hour and fifteen minute time period. Candidates will have no break in between sections, so they should come prepared to sit and take the exam in one period of time.

Candidates should be prepared to answer questions on a wide variety of psychological topics, including:
* Biological Bases of Behavior
* Cognitive-Affective Bases of Behavior
* Social and Multicultural Bases of Behavior
* Growth and Lifespan Development
* Assessment and Diagnosis
* Treatment, Intervention, and Prevention
* Research Methods and Statistics
* Ethical Issues
