The Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) Examination offered by the American Payroll Association (APA) grants successful candidates as FPC Certified Professionals. The test is open to anyone wanting to prove their understanding of payroll procedures. The certification is good for a period of three years, at which point the candidate must recertify through a process arranged by the APA.
The FPC exam can be taken during two times each year, during the spring and fall. The test can be taken March 29th to May 1st, 2010 or from September 11th to October 9th, 2010. The exam is administered at Pearson Vue testing centers located all over the United States. The exam centers do stop taking reservations at different times for these periods. Be sure to register early to be able to take the exam.
The FPC Exam contains questions around the following domain topics:
* Core Payroll Concepts
* Principles of Paycheck Calculations
* Payroll Process and Systems
The majority of the questions are contained within the first three sections described. The exam consists of 150 multiple choice questions. To register for the exam, candidates need to file an application along with an exam fee to the APA. The cost varies depending on location – the exam is offered to the International community. In the US, candidates need to pay $290.00 to the APA, while those in South America would pay $350.00.
On the test day, candidates should bring two forms of valid signature ID to the exam site. Everything must match in order for the candidate to be allowed to sit for the FPC. It’s recommended that exam takers arrive at least a half hour before the scheduled test time.
