The Health Education Systems, Inc. Admission Assessment (HESI A2) offered by the Health Education Systems, Inc. (HESI) grants successful candidates with access to an RN program. The HESI A2 has been closely related to nursing program retention rates and closely models how well a student will perform in the program. Many nursing programs use the HESI A2 as the final hurdle before allowing them into the nursing school.
The test is a broad test meant to capture the core academic skills of any candidate. It focuses on seven key areas of academic excellence. Candidates taking the test can expect to be tested on their reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, basic math, biology, anatomy/chemistry, and physiology.
The HESI A2 is a computer-based test that candidates will take at testing centers meant to regulate how much time is given to various sections. Candidates should expect to receive at total of six hours to complete the exam in its entirety. Since the exam focuses on seven areas, there will be no more than fifty questions given during each section. For instance, the Math section has a total of fifty questions, while the Chemistry portion consists of twenty-five. Students should be prepared to answer questions related to the fundamentals of the subject matter.
In addition to the subject matter tests, candidates will also receive a learning styles and personality inventory exams. These are quick questions that are used to give the enrolling school information about the candidate’s personality and learning habits. These are typically not used to keep students out of programs, but rather to build better curriculum later on in the process.
