The Health Occupations Basic Entrance Test (HOBET) offered by the Educational Resources, Inc. (ERI) is often given prior to accepting a student into a health related program. The test identifies how well a student comprehends what they read, identifies how the student approaches studying, and also gives the school administrators a look at how the person processes information.
The HOBET examines students based on seven key areas: reading comprehension, math, science, reading speed, critical thinking ability, test-taking skills, stress levels, social interaction, and learning style. The candidate will receive an overall composite score based on these seven areas.
In essence the student will be graded on their ability to process, function, appraise, and learn. A candidate’s numbers will be compared to the numbers given to students across the nation. This not only gives the school an idea of how well the student would perform in a particular program, but can also help make those programs better to direct tailoring of classrooms towards specific learning types.
As with many of these entrance exams, the HOBET is administered through computers at on-site locations. The school likely has a computer testing center they use for the entrance exams. Students will be given instructions on how to complete each section of the test and ample time to do so. Many of these tests allow for more time than is actually needed, so be sure to take your time and go through each question thoroughly. The test usually only takes two hours, but may have more time allotted.
