MSAT Study Guide

The Medical School Admissions Test (MSAT) offered by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) grants successful candidates with access to a variety of medical schools. The test is often used as a final criteria for enrollment into medical school.

The GAMSAT offered by ACER gives students a chance to prove they are ready to enter into the demanding educational programs offered at graduate level medical schools. The admissions test qualifies each candidate for their knowledge, aptitude, and abilities. A prerequisite of the GAMSAT is a bachelor’s degree.

The test is divided into three separate sections. These sections include all the following:

1. Reasoning in Humanities and Social Sciences
2. Written Communication
3. Reasoning in Biological and Physical Sciences

The first part will ask questions that determine the candidates understanding of social, cultural, and various complex thinking manners. The question will require verbal processing and conceptual thinking. All questions in this section will be multiple-choice questions.

The written communication portion will ask the candidate to finish two thirty minute writing tasks. The tasks will simple in nature, specifically to argue a case, develop an idea, or write about personal issues. The focus will be on how well the student uses logic, reasoning, and thinking in their writing. The focus will also be on how well the student crafts the essays.

The final portion of the exam asks students to answer questions related to Chemistry, Biology, and Physics. The test material typically handles material that would be common to a first year university student. Students should have a basic understanding of all three of these subjects in order to pass the exam.
