The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) offers a rigorous certification exam called the Air Systems Cleaning Specialist Certification (ASCS) examination preferably administered to an owner of a company, a principal, or a key employee in charge of and responsible for project management and the overseeing of air duct cleaning projects. This provides a system for gaining credentials and recognizing skills related to the field of HVAC system hygiene.
The ASCS is competitive, and the questions are geared towards assessing the applicant’s understanding of what he should have already learned. The coverage for the exam is so broad that it is recommended to master a selection of high-yield topics in order to pass. Some of these concepts are:
* Air Duct Cleaning
* Types of Contaminants
* HVAC system
* Process of Ventilation.
As to where to take the exam, there are 3 options offered by NADCA:
* NADCA offers a preparatory class and examination during NADCA seminars and its Annual Meeting.
* The ASCS may also be taken in the different regional areas across the United States.
* There are standardized testing centers around the world that also conduct certification examinations. The official list of testing centers is available at the NADCA website.
The ASCS exam costs $275 for NADCA members. Non-members have to pay $1,500. Taking it online at a standardized testing center is also more expensive, as a member must pay $385, while a non-member must pay $1,610.
